Monday Music Motivation – Baby Girl

This is a song from 2003 so naturally the video is simply amazing. Just the cheesy style should cheer you up on this Monday.

If you don’t know this song it’s basically a song about a girl writing home to her parents while she is trying to make it in the music business.

Dear Mom and Dad,
Please send money,
I’m so broke that it ain’t funny.
I don’t need much just enough to get me through.
Please don’t worry ’cause I’m alright.
(I’m playin here at the bar tonight)
This time I’m gonna make our dreams come true…
Well I love you more than anything in the world.
Love,
Your Baby Girl

I’m sharing this for your Monday Music Motivation not just because I’ve completely fallen in love with country over the past year, but because its a song that speaks the story of anyone starting out in their career. We all have money problems and road blocks. And its no shame at all if you had to call home to mom and dad to ask for money. What’s great about this song is that it doesn’t focus on the negative of all the struggles. It focuses on believing in the dream and having the drive to make it happen. You can also tell thatย Jennifer Nettles, lead singer of Sugarland, had a lot of support coming from home too. This isn’t the case for everyone, but it is important to find that support group.

So as you struggle to pay the bills this week and drowsily head to your underpaid job, remember being able to afford fancy cars and diamond rings aren’t the most important things in life and remember to keep the faith because one day you might be the one sending money home…

Dear Mom and Dad,
I’ll send money. I’m so rich that It ain’t funny.
Well it oughtta be more then enough to get you through.
Please don’t worry cause I’m alright,
I’m stayin here at the Ritz tonight,
Whatta ya know we made our dreams come true!
And there are fancy cars and diamond rings,
But you know that they don’t mean a thing,
Well they all add up to nothin compared to you,
Well, remember me in ribbons and curls…
I still love you more than anything in the world

Love,
Your Baby Girl
