The Professional Social Life – Networking

When I hear the word “networking” I think of it as something my Dad would do, but networking is really helpful. Nowadays a lot of the best entry level jobs get filled before the job is even posted! Someone can referred a candidate they know or worked with before to fill the spot so there’s no need to go through the process of posting a job and holding interviews.

Networking doesn’t have to be a big formal to do, just talk to people. You never know who you are going to meet when or who someone knows. You find out the craziest stories sometimes. Join groups, follow companies social medias, go to events… Go out for drinks! Seriously, the best networking time is that Friday night when everyone gets out from work and just needs a beer. Befriend some people and ask if they would want to grab a beer sometime. Don’t get sloppy,  just relax together, talk about work and non-work things. Get to know co-workers. Then make sure you keep in touch with them!

You’ll be surprised how people will treat you differently on Monday.
